DCIS Student Achievements

DCIS students are adventurous! Last summer, Jessica and Luz took advantage of a full scholarship to a 10-day Outward Bound climbing course in Wyoming.  DCIS students study and travel all over the world.

DCIS CSAP reading and writing scores are among the highest of all district high schools.

National Awards – Two students were named Horatio Alger $10,000 Award winners for the State of Colorado, the only students so named out of 107 in the nation in 2001.

Scholarship & Citizenship Awards – DCIS students have been named National Merit Scholars, Rotary Club Awardees and Denver Council on Foreign Relations International Award. Seven DCIS students have been awarded the prestigious Boettcher Scholarship, including two this past year.

Academic Competitions – Student teams have placed highly in various academic competitions such as the World Affairs Challenge at the University of Denver, Model United Nations, Bicentennial Competition on the Bill of Rights and the U.S. Constitution, and various international competitions.

In the class of 2011 six DCIS students received the coveted Daniels Fund Scholarships, and many received scholarships from prestigious universities and colleges throughout the country.

College Entrance – The college entrance rate of DCIS diploma recipients has been 95% for the last six years. DCIS graduates attend preeminent colleges and universities throughout the country such as Georgetown, Yale, Harvard, and Stanford Universities, the University of Chicago, the University of Colorado (one young man was in the Presidential Scholars’ Program) and the University of Denver.

95% of DCIS diploma graduates receive major financial aid awards for post secondary education.

Because of their annual volunteer service requirement for “thinking globally and acting locally,” DCIS students are recognized city-wide for their civic-mindedness and concern for their communities.
